You're losing out with fixed odds betting
My dad RIP always told me there's a reason a bookie has three paying in windows and only one paying out. Don't give your dosh to fixed odds bookies - use a betting exchange or if y...ou really know your stuff spread betting like Spreadex. The more right you are, the more you get paid! Be careful though as it ain't for the faint-hearted because if you really screw up you can really end up paying for it! Do your research and you will be fine.

I've been betting on the horses and a bit on the football for years now and I've always used Betfred as there's a Betfred bookie on the high street two doors down from my local. I ...admit I am a bit of a luddite when it comes to teccy stuff but I am using the Betfred site and it's easy to use even for an old duffer like me. Got to trust Fred he's a true brit and not one of these bookies that pretends to be British but is about as British as chicken tikka massala!!

Like it, could be better
Fitzdares is new to me and though I like it a lot I think it could be better as it's mainly horse racing and I prefer to bet on football. The football stuff is good though and the ...live betting stuff is really good. You can even bet on esports though I have no idea what they are? The only thing I don't like is there the official betting partner of Fulham and I support the mighty CFC!

I lost my dad to prostate cancer so I was interested to find out a betting site was supporting prostate cancer UK ... and how! I noticed that the Premier League of Darts is sponsored by BetMGM ... who I had never heard of so I decided to check them out. What can I say? It's pretty good but a bit basic. I m...ean, it has everything you need from a betting site, but it could do with a little bit more. I can't really though put my finger on what is missing, though. I do like the promotions - I mean, forty quid for a tenner cannot really be moaned about, can it? All in all I am glad that I have discovered this site, and will probably be using it quite a bit in the future. Recommended.

I've been betting on horses since the 1970s. My mobility is a bit suspect these days so thank the gambling gods for online betting! I'm a traditionalist though so I will only use s...ites that you find on the UK's high streets. Of them all I think Betfred is the best. I used to pop to my local Betfred to put on my punts before I nipped to the pub (next door). I'm a bit of a numpty when it comes to the internet though, but the Betfred site makes it easy for me. It could be better though - it's a lot harder to get darts and snooker bets on than horse racing!

I'm a big fan of American Football (Go Ravens!) and when I chat online to my gridiron mates they always talk about BetMGM. Apparently it's a legal site over there (I thought you co...uldn't bet on sports in the US, but I guess I am wrong). Well, BetMGM is over here now, so I decided to give it a go, and it's great! It's not just all about US sports, though! I really liked the welcome bonus which gave me £40 in freebies just for a £10 bet of my own (which I won anyway). Highly recommended, although Chris Rock being all over the site is highly annoying.

I was surprised when I did the maths for my 2023 gambling and found I'd made a loss. Not a big loss but I thought I was nicely in profit! Just goes to show, I guess! So, for 2024 I...'m gonna keep a better look on my gambling and I'm only going to use one site. And that's gonna be Bet365 as it's the best. A Superb Find!
My best Christmas present this year was the discovery of Fafabet, which isn't hard as all I got was socks and cheap power tools. I only went there to grab the welcome bonus but as ...it turned out I stayed around. I don't know what I like about the site. I just like it. I even played a bit at the casino (I don't usually) as I got a casino bonus too. Good stuff, would recommend.

I thought Fitzdares being a private members club in Mayfair was just a lot of hot air but I looked it up and stone the crows it is actually true. You wouldn't catch me in Mayfair t...hough so I guess the online betting side of Fitzdares will have to do for now! I like it for the horse racing and football and nothing else really interests me to be honest. Sorry!

I gave Fafabet a go because I saw them advertised at an AFCB game. They are new to me and it's a stupid name as it doesn't sound English but Fafabet is an English company based in ...Reading. I gave Fafabet a go and I was pleasantly surprised! It's not a brilliant site but it's not full of useless adverts like other sites I could mention but won't lol. Why not give Fafabet a go yourself you might like what you get. I use Fafabet a lot now and think you will too once you've found them.

I am a firm believer in backing British firms which is why I only use BetUK. Other big bookies pretend they are British but they've moved operations overseas so they don't pay no t...ext! If your a Brit then you need to be using BetUK. It's as British as Chicken Tikka Masala! Seriously, it's a great site and its easy to use. I have been using Goodwin's Racing telephone horse betting service for many years. It was my son who told me you can now use Goodwin Racing online too, at BetGoodwin. I didn't thin...k I would be able to as I only have an old phone, but the BetGoodwin site works fine on my old Samsung Galaxy! I can know place my bets using my phone so I save on phone calls too. It's a much better service than the telephone service and if someone so tech-phobic as me can use BetGoodwin, anyone can!

I get bored with 10bet from time to time but I always come back when I try other betting sites. 10bet is the best out there in my opinion. Best in the UK for spread betting (by default?)
I got into spread betting a couple years back and use Spreadex a lot. It's great but then there are that many alternatives! I wish more sites would endorse spread betting and I don...'t see why they won't! Its much more interesting than betting on fixed odds and you get better results if your accurate. More people should get itno it, although my advice would be to start small in terms of stakes as you can get unstuck if you don't know what you are doing. I've had some big wins (Newcastle beating Sheff U 8-0 netted me huge profits) and a few losses but nothing drastic. Check it out is my advice.

Never heard of this place but found it following looking around this site. All British Sports is part of the All British Casino and very good it is too! I really like the football ...live markets, and their coverage of US sports is top notch too. If you like eSports (personally they leave me cold) then there's superb coverage of video games too ... in fact this sports betting site pretty much covers everything!

I might be partial cause I like spread betting and I been a customer forever, but they do provide one of - to me - the markets best spread betting sites for UK punters. With th...at said, this is not a good bookie for beginners, for that I would say Betfair is a much easier to learn. If you like spread betting, you will at one point in time end up at Spreadex and probably like me, stay there. But if you just started out you might be scared off.

Which States regulate Online Gambling

After legislative approval, retail sports betting became legal in 2019, with the first online sportsbooks launching in March 2022. Governor Asa Hutchinson championed the legislation, advocating for the modernization of the state’s gambling laws. Betting sites operate under license from the Arkansas Racing Commission and must partner with existing physical casinos.

Colorado legalized online sports betting in May 2020, with sportsbooks going live on the same day. The bill enjoyed bipartisan support, notably from Senator Chriss Holbert, aiming to boost state revenue. The Colorado Division of Gaming issues licenses and collates betting stats.

Online sports betting was legalized in March 2021, and sportsbooks started launching in October of the same year. The Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection regulates the market, with operators required to partner with state lotteries or tribal casinos.

Delaware has offered a “sports lottery” since June 2009 and legalized sports betting on June 5th, 2018, making it one of the earliest adopters post-PASPA. The Delaware Lottery regulates sports betting and made exclusive agreements with William Hill to supply the state’s three casinos with betting products.

After bills HB 1317, HB 1321, and HB 1319 failed to garner enough support in 2021, Florida finally legalized sports betting in December 2023 via the SB 2-A bill. Hard Rock Bet, operated by the Seminole Tribe, is currently the sole provider and will likely remain so for the foreseeable future. The Florida Division of Gaming Enforcement handles regulation.

Illinois legalized online sports betting in June 2019, with the Illinois Gaming Board approving licenses for eight sportsbooks in 2020. Governor J.B. Pritzker led the effort to legalize and regulate sports betting.

Iowa legalized online sports betting in May 2019 after Governor Kim Reynolds signed HF 2448 into law. However, retail and online sportsbooks only started taking their first bets in August 2019. Iowa currently has over 15 mobile betting apps, one of the widest varieties in any state.

Kansas made many failed attempts to legalize sports betting, but it finally succeeded in May 2022 with the signing of SB84. The eleven casinos in Kansas can each open a retail sportsbook and partner with online sports betting providers to launch a mobile betting app.

Governor John Bel Edwards signed bills SB 247, SB 142, and HB 697 into law in 2021, and Louisiana legalized sports betting, Sportsbooks went live in January 2022. The Louisiana Lottery Corporation oversees regulation, and you can currently choose from just under ten betting apps.

Governor Janet Mills signed Act LD585 in August 2022, making Maine’s four Indian Tribes the only gambling operators in the state. Only two currently have mobile betting app partnerships, and more online sportsbooks may come soon. Maine has stricter betting rules, with TV commercials, for example, only being allowed during live sports events.

Maryland legalized sports betting in November 2020, with sportsbooks launching in November 2022. Governor Larry Hogan championed the initiative, emphasizing the economic benefits, mainly in raising funds for public education. The Maryland State Lottery and Gaming Control Agency regulates existing sportsbooks, while the Sports Wagering Application Review Commission handles new applications.

Massachusetts legalized online sports betting in August 2022, with sportsbooks launching in March 2023. Governor Charlie Baker was a key proponent, and the Gaming Commission regulates sportsbooks, which are required to partner with existing casinos.

Michigan legalized online sports betting in December 2019, with platforms launching in January 2021. Governor Gretchen Whitmer strongly supported the legislation to enhance the state’s gambling framework and generate additional revenue. The Michigan Gaming Control Board oversees regulation, and operators are not required to partner with physical casinos, allowing for a diverse and competitive market.

Online sports betting has been legal in Mississippi since August 2018, but only at physical casino premises. Sportsbooks must operate within the confines of these locations and cannot offer standalone online platforms. There was a push to legalize mobile sports betting in April 2024, but it narrowly failed to advance.

Montana legalized online sports betting in May 2019, but access is restricted to specific retail locations. The Montana Lottery app, launched in March 2020, is the primary method for online betting, but you must be physically located in a retail sportsbook to use it.

Nevada, the long-standing leader in gambling, legalized online sports betting in May 2010. Due to its established gaming infrastructure, the state was exempt from federal restrictions. The state effectively had a sports betting monopoly in the US until 2018. You can choose from ten mobile betting apps in NV, with several only available in the state.

New Hampshire legalized online sports betting in July 2019, with sportsbooks launching in December that same year. Governor Chris Sununu backed the bill, which included a bidding process to give only one betting site a license. DraftKings won the bid and currently has the sole mobile betting app in NH.

New Jersey initially legalized online sports betting in November 2011 and again in June 2018, following a landmark Supreme Court ruling that overturned PASPA. Governor Phil Murphy played a pivotal role in pushing for this legislation. The New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement regulates and oversees over 10 betting apps in NJ.

New Mexico already had a tribal compact that allowed “any or all forms of Class III Gaming,” so sports betting automatically became legal after PASPA was struck down. As a result, the first tribal casino began offering sports betting in October 2018. However, the state currently doesn’t have legal mobile betting sites, as this would require a separate legislature.

New York legalized online sports betting in April 2021, with platforms launching in January of the following year. The New York State Gaming Commission is mandated to regulate, oversee the application process, and grant licenses. NY has eight betting apps, with more likely to come soon.

North Carolina legalized retail sports betting in 2019, and HB 347 legalized mobile sports betting apps in July 2023. The first mobile betting app launched in March 2024, with seven more following rapidly. The North Carolina Lottery Commission regulates betting sites, which are required to partner with land-based casinos. 

Ohio legalized online sports betting in December 2021 with the signing of House Bill 29, and sportsbooks launched on January 1, 2023. Key advocates for the legislation included Senator Niraj Antani and Representative Bill Seitz. Prop bets on college sports are illegal in OH.

Oregon legalized online sports betting in August 2019, offering it exclusively through the state-run Scoreboard app, operated by the Oregon Lottery. DraftKings became the sole mobile betting app in 2022.

Pennsylvania legalized online sports betting in October 2017 after passing House Bill 519. Sportsbooks launched in May 2019 after PASPA was struck down. The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board regulates the nine mobile betting apps currently available in the state. PA is currently the third largest betting market in the US, after NV and NJ.

Rhode Island legalized online sports betting in November 2018, and SB 37 allowed Caesars to partner with William Hill to run the sole mobile betting app in the state. Caesars is currently the only betting app after it acquired William Hill. The Rhode Island Lottery manages betting regulations.

South Dakota legalized online sports betting in March 2021 but was restricted to Deadwood’s licensed casinos as of September 2021. Mobile betting is also legal but limited to casino properties.

Tennessee legalized online sports betting in November 2020 by signing HB 1. The Tennessee Education Lottery Corporation regulated gambling until January 2022, when the Sports Wagering Advisory Council (SWAC) overtook licensing and collection of betting data.

Vermont legalized online sports betting in May 2023 after passing HB 127. The first two mobile betting apps took bets in January 2024. The Department of Liquor and Lottery (DLL) ensures all players abide by rules and restrictions, including no advertising on college campuses and no gambling on college sports involving Vermont teams.

Virginia legalized online sports betting in April 2020, and online sportsbooks launched in January 2021, generating a handle of $58 million within the first 11 days. The Virginia Lottery Board is the assigned regulator for the close to 15 mobile betting apps.

Washington legalized sports betting in March 2020, but mobile betting is limited to tribal-run retail locations, primarily within casinos. Tribal authorities manage regulation under a state agreement. Discussions continue about the potential expansion of mobile betting in the future.

Washington DC legalized limited online and retail sports betting in May 2019 through the city-run GambetDC platform. FanDuel replaced GambetDC in 2024, and private operators, such as BetMGM, are also available.

West Virginia legalized online sports betting in March 2018 through Senate Bill 415, with platforms launching later that year. The state ran a sole betting platform setup in 2019 but soon let private players in, with close to ten now up and running.

As of October 2024, Wisconsin does not permit online gambling, including sports betting. Tribal authorities regulate legal gambling within their jurisdictions, limiting activity to physical casinos located on tribal lands. While there have been discussions about the potential legalization of online betting, the state has not yet moved forward with any specific proposals or legislative actions.

Wyoming legalized online sports betting in April 2021, allowing several platforms to operate without the need for partnerships with physical casinos. The Wyoming Department of Revenue is the assigned regulator.

That award goes to bet365. This Stoke-on-Trent company has annual revenues close to £3 billion. Interestingly, bet365 has remained in the UK and pays its full whack of UK tax, unlike other companies that have moved operations abroad to tax-friendly jurisdictions such as Gibraltar.

Are betting sites safe?

You should steer clear of any bookies not licensed by the UK Gambling Commission (UKGC). Without industry regulation, betting websites can be unsafe and should not be trusted.

What if I get banned from an online sports betting site?

Sites will only ban punters under extreme circumstances, such as when they abuse bonus offers. If you do get banned, the chances of the site rescinding your ban are minimal. It is better to open an account with a different bookie, and to avoid giving them a reason to ban you as well!
